Female pattern baldness does actually exist, but it's a lot rarer than male pattern baldness because women have much less DHT. DHT, as a hormone, is a derivative of testosterone, and it's necessary during early puberty and for the development of facial hair. After puberty, it's not that necessary, which is why it's generally considered safe for guys with a genetic tendency to go bald to take DHT blockers, although those blockers can sometimes have side effects, including lower libido, depression, and weight gain.
